The project DWBB (Driving While Black and Brown) is in
response to a climate of police brutality faced disproportionately by Black and
Hispanic individuals. The term refers to racial profiling that exists in the
United States, United Kingdom, and other countries. MANDRILL shines a spotlight
on this pattern of behavior in our society that needs to cease.
Listen to President Obama's comments on racial profiling and MANDRILL's "Carry The Light" from their Driving While Black and Brown CD.
Once upon a time back in the day There lived in a garden the owner and the slave All were afraid so games they would play One got paid while the other got played
And thats pretty much how it is today So I analyze see the game universal law But mans not the same like chess, each step a checkpoint test like no other story because you finish the rest
Here comes the white knight he reacts interacts negative day and night but its up to you to be the wiser When you come into the red, blue and white Flashing red lights
From Roman soldiers metal horses black and whites Sometimes underdogs in a light so bright Flies wanna fly right into that light And histories meet again like two old lovers Who cant pretend they gave birth to a nation
Now only one of two things can define the equation Come to understanding or come to confrontation
Dont let the man wreck yourself Check yourself Do the best yourself Preventative medicine test yourself Bless yourself Figure out the rest yourself...
Its the illumination of your illumined eye Carry the light when you ride tonight Illumination of your deeper side Carry the light when you ride
Now some say we should fight fire with fire But I say water on the fire Take us higher Even if the darkness in the shadows form an invitation You become the vessel to the physical manifestation Of the love and magnificence of all creation
Kings sometimes walk while fools ride great white horses remember who the source is
Kings sometimes walk while fools ride
Out with the old in with the new outcome of the story Is up to each and every one of you Realize analyze one more time Overcome evil with your higher mind
Its the illumination of your illumined eye Carry the light when you ride tonight Its the illumination of your deeper side Carry the light when you ride
Dont let the man wreck yourself Check yourself Do the best yourself Preventative medicine test yourself Bless yourself Figure out the rest yourself...
Driving while Black and Brown Put your face on the ground
Carry the light when you ride tonight Carry the light when you ride...
Driving while Black and Brown Put your face on the ground...
If You Are Stopped By The Police – Know Your Rights
These are suggestions from the ACLU of Southern California (www.aclu-sc.org). Be sure to consult a lawyer for complete legal advice.
If you are stopped, especially if you are wrongfully stopped, stay calm. Remember, what you say can be used against you. You do not have to answer a police officer’s questions, but you must show your driver’s license and registration when stopped in a car. If your rights are violated, do not try to deal with the situation at the scene. Talk to an attorney afterwards, or file a complaint with the police department’s Internal Affairs or civilian review.

September 2008 found the Group in Florida at the Seventh Annual Hollywood Beach Clambake Festival.
“Your spirits and pure, beautiful and boundless energies touched all of us so profoundly. Our Sunday was awash with comments and reflections of the magical Mandrill Family's visitation and transformation of our beach and festival into a joyous celebration much greater than we had ever hoped to create. You all truly embody and are surely High Ambassadors of the universal language of music, soul, love, peace (and funk!) and I personally, along with many others, am certain, will never be the same. Thank you doesn't even come close to what we'd like to send to you. Love, blessings and well wishes from our beach to your hearts with hopes for your continued success and many more musical and spiritual adventures ahead. May MANDRILL's road some day soon lead back to South Florida.” Holly Spillane, Producer
