The pulsating funk groove transitions into "Hagalo" (a big city salsa feel). After the Brother's blaring horns and salsa clave, the tune shifts gears back to square one. Cool trip!
HANG LOOSE
A definite driving force of a tune is "Hang Loose". Omar mesa's ever climbing solo backed by a strong 4/4 bass line and horns, made this Claude Cave tune a favorite among Mandrill fans
MOROCCAN NIGHTS
"Moroccan nights" is a soothing and very sensual Wilson brothers instrumental tinged with an eastern musical hue. Sounds great indoors, but outdoors under the summer night's stars? "forget about it "!
POLK ST. CARNAVAL
"Polk st carnaval" shows the brother's Pana-Carrib roots in the form of a bouncey calypso. The tune was written about a real experience in San Francisco. This medium called calypso, predates the now very popular reggae, and was the earlier form of expression for social, political, religious and other ideas.
OUT WITH THE BOYS
"Out With The Boys" written by Fudgie Kae, (AKA Fred Solomon) one of Mandrill's bassists, deals with realization of a relationship. Fudgie sang lead on this tune. Good song.
